Rockridge, Oakland
Two years after updating core structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and heating systems of their new Rockridge home, our long-time clients brought us back to execute their most ambitious construction project to date- the complete interior re-build of their 1915 traditional style duplex.
The house was stripped to its bare bones, all out-of-plumb and level conditions corrected, and dropped beams replaced by concealed steel girders to create an uninterrupted ceiling plane. The awkward existing floor plan of the duplex was reworked to create a grand central living room with a wrap around fireplace, and reduced the in-law unit to a 1/1 au pair suite.
In the kitchen, full custom cabinets topped with Ritchlite counters house Miele appliances seamlessly, and the enlarged pass through to the dining area appropriately joins the two spaces. The master bath suite features unique tile and cast concrete elements in the soaking tub and steam room, contributing to the clean, contemporary style of this neighborhood jewel.
